Where's the Money?

Writer: Tsiporah Nephesh, she/herTsiporah Nephesh, she/her

We’ve heard the state has a budget surplus, and that American Rescue Plan Act funds are flowing into New Mexico, but where’s the money? How can nonprofits access some of this bonanza?

Let’s be clear, the money won’t knock on your door!

Be informed. Check out the new American Rescue Plan Act page to find out how much your county and municipality are receiving.

We need to be proactive. We must hold government accountable and ask for a transparent process around decision making. Reach out to your state legislators, county commissioners, city/town/village councilors. See the ARPA funding advocacy template for guidance.

To learn about what the state is planning to do with the surplus, follow the Revenue Stabilization and Tax Policy Committee. Talk with your state representative and senator; they represent you.

This is not the time to be passively hopeful. It’s time to take action. It’s time to speak up for our organizations and our communities.
